Executive Manager – Community Engagement Division, Crime Prevention Community Liaison Unit – WA Police

Bernie Durkin
Chairman, Neighbourhood Watch Australasia

Bernie is the Executive Manager for the Community Engagement Division of the Western Australia Police. Part of this role encompasses the position of WA State Director for NHW.

In 1988 Bernie joined WA Police as a sworn Police Officer then switching to a Public Servant in 2008.

In his current role Bernie manages a team of crime prevention community engagement staff and is extensively involved with NHW at both a State and National level. Bernie is currently the Chairman of Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.

National Prevention Manager, New Zealand Police

Superintendent Eric Tibbott
Board Director, Neighbourhood Watch Australasia

Superintendent Eric Tibbott was appointed National Manager: Prevention New Zealand Police in December 2016. He leads the Prevention First Operating Model with a focus on Family Harm, Youth, Mental Health, Alcohol Harm Reduction, Victims and Community Safety Projects.

Superintendent Tibbott is a 33-year law enforcement veteran and accomplished leader in Police. Under his leadership, the National Prevention Centre has advanced the holistic and healing approach to Family Violence and Youth Justice. He led the development of the New Zealand strategy for Protecting Crowded Places from Attack and is currently exploring the co-responder approach to police engagement with mental health consumers. Previously, he has served in the United Kingdom with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.

Maria Bennett
Neighbourhood Watch Australasia

Maria has extensive knowledge, management skills and leadership experience in both the public and private sectors, working closely with many prominent charities and not for profit organisations. Prior to joining NHWA Maria was Director of a promotions company for 9 years and has had a successful career in corporate sales and marketing roles.

Previous management roles in medical and health industries in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, have provided experience in coordination of major projects and exposure to the differing legislative and regulatory environments involved as well as an awareness of the unique physical and social challenges each location brings.

Maria acknowledges the vital contribution community and police working together makes to crime prevention and community safety, as together we deal with many changes and challenges.

Executive Assistant/Project Manager

Selina Otto
Neighbourhood Watch Australasia

Selina has a breadth of experience in numerous roles including administration, sales and customer relations. Having recently completed a Bachelor of Justice specialising in Policing and a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology), she is passionate about crime prevention within the community. Some of her goals include furthering the organisations reach to engage members of all ages, as well as offering services which educate its members on community safety. Selina is an energetic and motivated young individual who looks forward to helping you with your Neighbourhood Watch journey.

Project Manager

Melissa Roberts
Neighbourhood Watch Australasia

Melissa is a Senior Client Services/Project Manager with over 17 years of experience delivering projects locally and internationally. Having worked with global design, media and event agencies, Melissa has overseen projects from small scale intimate events to complex international-touring roadshows. With experience in retail architectural design management as well, she brings wealth of project management experience gained from working across these different industries. Melissa is pleased to be working with Neighbourhood Watch Australasia on the 2021 International Conference, and several other community-focussed projects.
